About the speaker:

K. Joanne McGlown, PhD, MHHA, BS, RN, FACHE

Dr. McGlown is the Global Business Development Director; Sigma Theta Tau International, CEO, McGlown-Self Consulting, LLC. and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (AL).

Dr. McGlown began careers in Nursing and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in the early 1970s, and has vast experience in pre-hospital, nursing and healthcare administration. She holds degrees in Nursing, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and in Fire Science Administration; a B.S. in Sociology/Psychology and a Masters of Science in Hospital and Health Administration (MHHA). Her Doctorate (Ph.D.) is a joint Healthcare-Business degree in Administration of Health Services, with a major in strategic management. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).

She is a noted speaker on the topic of hospital preparedness for disasters and terrorism for the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and other national and international audiences. She edited the book, Terrorism and Disaster Management: Preparing Healthcare Leaders for Our New Reality - a 2004 management publication of Health Administration Press (Chicago, IL), currently in use in 17 U.S. universities. She is also co-editor of the book Anticipate, Respond, Recover: Healthcare Leadership and Catastrophic Events published by Health Administration Press in March 2011.
