Using Multidisciplinary Collaboration and Systems Integration to Accomplish Organizational Goals

Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) implemented a TEAM approach to nursing unit budget development and management to accomplish organizational goals in FY 2008.  NGMC was able to improve nursing unit productivity, change nursing skill mix, reduce outside contract labor, reduce overtime, increase internal pool resources, and reduce expensive shift incentives by using an acuity based budgeting process, integrating various IT systems and developing a central staffing office approach to resource management. 

The success of this process of resource management has lead to continuation of the newly formed process and expansion of the integrated systems to other parts of the patient care division.
