St.Joseph?s/Candler (SJ/C) a two-hospital system in Savannah, Ga., faced a 14% vacancy rate, and the difficult realization that its Magnet nurses were floating to work at neighboring hospitals to fill vacant shifts? all while SJ/C relied on shift bonus, contract labor, and overtime. This was a wake-up call to create a more engaged workforce to help ensure safe, cost-effective, and efficient staffing patterns.
